Becoming The Nature of Science: Making Sense of What is Not Seen. The Case of the “Lost Gorge”

The purpose of this activity is to help students learn the roles of observation and inference in the development of scientific knowledge. Using an historical case study of early map-making endeavors, students will learn about this key topic in the “nature of science.”

This activitiy is designed for use in high school science classes.
