Nicole
Hanley Markelz CEIRP Project
This year I am
working with Ms. Margaret Brazwell at East High School in
Rochester, NY. I have been involved with both her Botany
and Environmental Science classes doing a variety of small
projects. In Botany, the students have worked on several
projects ranging from observing the products of photosynthesis
via starch staining to measuring seedling lengths when grown
in the dark. This coming semester I plan on allowing the
students to come up with their own plant-related questions
and testing them independently. In Environmental Science,
we have talked a lot about perturbing ecosystems and biomes.
Additionally, we have set up a compost system for the school's
culinary arts course.
