Welcome to CSIP!
Through the Cornell Science Inquiry Partnerships (CSIP) program, Cornell graduate students have collaborated with middle and high school science teachers to design and implement inquiry-based lesson plans and student research projects.

Many CSIP curriculum resources are available for free download, including lesson plans and related resources for high school and middle school projects related to biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental science, physics, the nature of science, and the social sciences.

Cornell graduate students and local teachers can collaborate through participation in Cornell's Graduate Student School Outreach Project.

Science Education Standards
In 1996, the National Research Council published the National Science Education Standards, a set of guidelines for the teaching of science in grades K through 12. These standards move science teaching away from vocabulary lists and "canned" laboratories and toward active inquiry that requires reasoning and thinking skills in addition to content knowledge.

CSIP was designed to embrace the philosophy set forth by the creators of the National Standards, which is that students of science must have both "hands-on" and "minds-on" experiences. Learn more about National and New York State Science Education Standards.

Funding
CSIP was funded 1999-2006 through grants from the National Science Foundation's Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12) program, with additional support from Cornell University.
