My
interests lie in conservation and environmental education;
in the
future
I hope to work as an outreach educator while participating
in either
wildlife or ecological research. I have had
a variety of experience; most
recently I worked for the
Blossey lab at Cornell, rearing beetles for
biological
control of invasive species such as purple loosestrife and
spotted napweed.
I
really enjoy fieldwork; we did plant surveys and such this
past summer and a couple of years ago a position I had with
the NYC Parks Conservation Corps helped familiarize me with
the issues that accompany natural urban spaces. For a number
of years I also worked for the Prospect Park Wildlife Center,
a zoo in Brooklyn, doing animal education and habitation
classes for younger children.
Although
I have particular interests in wildlife, I would enjoy teaching
in many different environmentally scientific areas. My main
goal is to help make science more accessible to students;
to offer alternate experiences and perceptions; generally
to make learning fun.
