The Cell Story: Acting Out the Functions of Organelles
Shannon Olsson
2003-2004 Fellow

In this activity, students design and perform a short play in which they act out parts of animal or plant cells and cooperate to carry out basic functions such as cellular respiration and protein synthesis. This activity is designed to review and reinforce concepts related to cell processes.

This activity was piloted in 2004 with a 7th grade class at St. Patrick’s School in Seneca Falls, NY. It was accomplished in one 40 minute period and served as a fun and interesting review of cell functions. Comments/tips found in the teacher version were a result of this pilot lesson.
